Before you get started with your survey there are a few thing that you should ask yourself:
Survey Design
- What is the objective?
- What topics are needed to reach the objective?
- How long will the survey be?
- What types of scales to use?
- Who are the respondents?
- What are the questions?
- Will there be different questions for different demographic groups?
Survey Administration - Web surveys:
- Who hosts the survey?
- Who notifies respondents?
- Who reminds respondents to reply (and how many times)?
- How much formatting does the survey need?
- Who tests the survey site?
- Is there a need for pre-population of demographic data?
- Is there a need for respondent security?
- Is there a need for respondent anonymity?
- Will there be an incentive program for respondents?
Survey Administration - Hard copy surveys:
- Who prints the surveys?
- Who distributes the surveys?
- Who collects the surveys?
- Who completes the data entry of the surveys?
360 process:
- Who loads the survey into the system?
- What roles are chosen for the system?
- Who hosts the system?
- Who administers the system?
- Who selects the participants?
- Who selects the raters?
- Does everyone get rated on the same assessment?
- How long will the assessment be 'live'?
Focus group:
- Where will it be located?
- What day / time will it take place?
- Will there be any incentive for participating?
- Who will lead the discussion?
- Who will be watching the discussion?
- Will there need to be video and/or audiotapes of the meeting?
Survey Analysis and Reports
- How frequently reports will need to be written?
- What format the reports need to be in?
- How extensive will the reports need to be?
- How many demographic filters will the reporting need to show?
- Does there need to be an Executive Summary written with conclusions and recommendations?
Communication Process
- When will the project be announced?
- Who will announce the project?
- How much information will be shared with those impacted?
- After the project, what information will be fed back to the participants?
- Who will communicate this information?
- In what format?
